Selling insurance policies thanks to telephone use

Mobile telephony company Yu is committed to purchase a life and disability insurance from Jubilee Insurance for the benefit of its subscribers. The insurance cover will depend on the monthly telephone consumption of each individual. The minimum communication fee must be 100 KES (1.2 USD). This product has been designed by MicroEnsure, the micro insurance specialist in Africa. Yu counts 2.8 million subscribers, nearly 700 000 of whom have benefited from this privilege during August. MicroEnsure is expecting insurance penetration rate, currently of 3.02%, to double in the country.
