Sentenced to a 5-year prison for having defrauded 1.3 million USD to insurance

Early October 2017, the Swiss justice condemneda 60-year-old person to five years imprisonment for insurance fraud. The latter had simulated a state of health that made him unfit for work while he continued to practice with several companies.

A simple strategy to defraud insurance

Following a traffic accident in 1989, the convicted person aged 28 year-old at that time, was seriously injured in the cervical spine. The authorities recognized him a 100% work incapacity, then 70%. They thus paid him a full annuity.

After a while, the man's health state improved. He took over the work, sat at the board of directors of a pharmaceutical company and created his own company without informing neither the authorities nor his insurers. Between 2002 and 2008, he, thus earned 2.1 million USD. During this period, more specifically between 2002 and 2012, the swindler received 347 000 USD from the Swiss authorities and 884 000 USD from the insurer SwissLife.

Several charges against the insurance fraudster

In early October 2017, the Nidwalden Canton's Court in Switzerland found the defendant guilty of fraud by trade, forgery in securities, omission of accounting and unfair management. He was sentenced to a 5-year prison. His spouse was condemned to one and a half years suspended sentence, for complicity.
