Sharp rise of insurance prices in 2012

The national institute of statistics and economic studies (INSEE) has published figures about household consumption in 2012 which showed that the prices of insurance policies increased by 9.5% on average. This is the largest increase recorded in the consumer sector, far ahead of those of fruit and vegetables (6.3%), tobacco (6.1%), heating and lighting (+5.6 %) or of fuels and lubricants (4.9%). In non-life insurance, the prices have varied according to the different types of contracts. Motor insurance is rising while householder’s comprehensive insurance is regressing.
