Suez Canal blockade: Ever Given leaves Egypt

Ever GivenThe Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Japanese company Shoei Kisen, owner of the Ever Given, have signed a compensation agreement for the release of the giant container ship, which has been held up since the end of March 2021 in Egypt. The Ever Given blocked the Suez Canal from 23 to 29 March 2021.

To celebrate the signed deal and the ship’s setting sail, a ceremony was organized on 7 July 2021.

No information was disclosed on the amount of compensation given to the Canal Authority. The SCA had initially claimed 916 million USD in damages caused by Ever Given. The authority later reduced the sum to 550 million USD.
