Sustained market growth in 2011

In 2011, the Burundi insurance market posted a 14.34% increase of its turnover from 22 187 536 889 BIF (18. 342 million USD) in 2010 to 25 902 425 103 BIF (21.413 million USD). Non-life insurance accounts for 73.97% of the market shares while life business, which generated 6 742 750 501 BIF (5.277 million USD) of premiums, represents only 26.03% of the total premiums.
The market was dominated in 2011 by property damage and marine insurance. Both classes of business have undergone increases of respectively 24.5% and 21.45%. SOCABU remains the leader of this market which counts six insurance companies.
