self-driving carOn 13 September 2021, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has requested information from 12 automakers about their driver assistance systems. This request is part of a preliminary investigation conducted, since 16 August, on the reliability of Tesla's Autopilot driving assistant.

Since January 2018, Tesla cars have been involved in eleven traffic accidents causing the death of one person and injuring 17 others.

The latest incident took place on August 28, when a self-driving car from the same automaker crashed into a parked police vehicle on the side of a highway in Florida.

The NHTSA investigation covers almost all the vehicles sold in the United States by the group headed by Elon Musk, which stand for 765 000 Y, X, S and 3-model cars.
