The Asia-Pacific region, 80% of losses due to natural catastrophes

According to a Munich Re report, 80% of the economic losses in the Asia-Pacific region is accounted for by natural catastrophes occurring during the first nine months of the year. By September 30, 2011, economic losses are estimated at 259 billion USD while insured losses amounted to 52 billion USD. The report also states that climate-related catastrophes have more than tripled in the last thirty years, going even four fold in China.
