The bill of 2018 natural catastrophes estimated at 2.9 billion USD for Swiss Re

Swiss Re estimates the losses due to natural or human-related disasters will cost him 2.9 billion USD in 2018. The fourth quarter of the past year alone accounts for 1.3 billion USD of losses.

The Zurich reinsurer notes that the fourth quarter was significantly affected by natural disasters. The bill for Hurricane Michael could reach 150 million USD, the one for Typhoons Jebi and Trami would amount to 320 million USD. Forest fires that ravaged California would cost 375 million USD to the reinsurer.

Other disasters are added to the list, including the loss of a satellite, the industrial fire in Germany or even the increase in loss notifications claims after the floods caused by the Ituango Dam in Colombia.

As a reminder, the total wordwide disaster-related insured losses amounted to t 81 billion USD in 2018.
