The free floating of Egyptian pound strains reinsurance programs

The decision of the Egyptian central bank to no longer control the exchange rate of the Egyptian pound has prompted insurers to rethink their reinsurance programs. Several technical committees have been established by the insurance federation in order to study the impact of currency floating.

Several options have been examined, among which that of raising the capacity of reinsurance programs or raising the capital in order to face the possible increase of compensations.
