The heat wave costs a great deal to insurance

CaniculeThe heat waves that hit metropolitan France could result in losses ranging from 700 million EUR to 900 million EUR (780 million USD to 1 billion USD) for insurers in 2019.

Increasing claims are observed in the agricultural sector due to decrease of agricultural production in quantity and quality. At the individual level, this increase is accounted for by the discomfort caused by excessive temperatures and by the deterioration of dwellings as a result of the weakening of the soil.

Figures are steadily growing according to the French Insurance Federation (FFA), for whom drought-related compensations could jump by 150% within 25 years if no action is taken.
