The premiums volume reached 220 billion USD in 2010.

The Chinese insurance has drained 1450 billion CNY (220 billion USD) of premiums in 2010, that is, 30% more than in 2009. This figure is slightly below the expectations of the authorities which projected 1470 billion CNY (222 billion USD). The law, which prohibits companies from distributing policies through their employees, has significantly slowed the sales. In 2010, life insurance totalled 1060 billion CNY (160 billion USD), rising by 29% in one year. The profits of the sector reached 60.7 billion CNY (9.2 billion USD) in 2010, that is, an increase of 14.4% compared to 2009.
