The US government blocked two merger and acquisition operations

The US executive has filed a lawsuit to prevent the achievement of the purchases of Humana by Aetna and Cigna by Anthem.

The government has explained its attitude by its fear that, if consolidated, the health insurance sector will lead to reduced competition, a considerable increase in costs and increased inequalities in access to health care.

Evaluated respectively at 37 and 54.2 billion USD, the two transactions are part of the consolidation wave observed since 2015 in the US health insurance market.
