Thierry Léger, CUO of the Swiss Re Group

Thierry LégerThierry Léger has been appointed Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of the Swiss Re Group. He succeeds Edi Schmid who decided to leave the reinsurer's Executive Committee for personal reasons.

The new appointment takes effect on 1 September 2020. A graduate of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and the University of St. Gallen, Léger started his career in 1993 as an engineer with WGG Engineer.

He joined Swiss Re in 1997 as Head of Property & Casualty Risks. In 2001, he integrated Swiss Re New Markets. Between 2003 and 2005, Léger became a member of the management team of Swiss Re France. In 2013, he was promoted to Head of Life and Health Reinsurance.

From 2016 up to now, he has held the position of CEO of Swiss Re life Capital, which combines the activities of Swiss Re ReAssure, elipsLife and iptiQ.
