Tunisia ranking 136th for climate risks

The Global Climate Risk Index 2019 ranks Tunisia in the 136th position in relation with climate risks. The ranking reviews 181 countries. It is based mainly on the number of annual deaths and the cost of the damage associated with climate risks.

Tunisia annually records 4 deaths and 66 million USD of losses related to extreme weather conditions. The country is well positioned in comparison with other countries, particularly France (1120 deaths and 2.2 billion USD of losses) and Italy (1005 deaths and 1.5 billion USD in losses).

In the Maghreb, Libya tops the ranking of the countries least exposed to climatic risks. It occupies the 170th position worldwide, with an average of 1.05 deaths annually and 6 million of losses related to weather conditions. Libya is followed by Tunisia, then Morocco which ranks 111th with an average 15.7 deaths and 174 million USD of losses.
