Two new takaful insurers

Two new takaful insurers are about to emerge in Tunisia. Called Takafulia and Al Amana Takaful, these two companies are currently awaiting license from the ministry of finance. Tunisian and foreign islamic banks along with traditional insurance companies are among the main shareholders.
Insurers, keen on islamic insurance business in Tunisian market, are required to set up an independent entity. The general insurance committee has indeed rejected the idea of specialized windows within traditional insurance companies. A bill currently under study shall prohibit takaful operation by traditional insurers.
