USA: autonomous cars to deliver pizzas

In the near future, Americans will no longer have pizza deliverers who will ring at their doorstep. The service will be provided by autonomous cars. Ford Motor Company, in partnership with Domino's Pizza, an international franchise specializing in fast food, is behind this robotization project.

The State of Michigan will serve as a laboratory for this first experiment. Efficiency of cars without drivers and consumer behavior will then be carefully scrutinized.

How does the delivery of pizzas by drivereless car work?

Using your phone or the internet remains a must to order. A few minutes after this contact, the customer is informed by telephone that the autonomous car is in front of his door. It can then be used by introducing the code, previously provided by the seller. The pizza is in a box that keeps it warm.

The car that delivers the pizza is certainly without driver but for safety the supplier has provided a person aboard the vehicle to meet customer requests.

* The autonomous car project to deliver the pizzas is still being tested. It is part of Ford's program for the development of artificial intelligence and robotics aboard its vehicles.
