Winter temperatures have caused heavy losses for insurers in the UK

The British insurers have suffered a large number of claims due to freezing temperatures and snow in December 2010. They have received 467 000 loss advices for damages amounting to 1.43 billion GBP (2.2 billion USD) with 900 million GBP (1.39 billion USD) allocated for property damages and 530 million GBP (820 million USD) for motor insurance. A year ago, winter caused 700 million GBP (1.1 billion USD) of losses.
