6.1 magnitude earthquake hits western Turkey

Turkey earthquakeA 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the town of Sindirgi in western Turkey on 10 August 2025, resulting in the death of an 81-year-old person and injuries to 29 others.

According to authorities, 16 buildings collapsed, including four residential homes. The initial quake was followed by 20 aftershocks, with magnitudes ranging from 3.5 to 4.6 on the Richter scale.

It is worth noting that the 2023 earthquake in Turkey and Syria caused at least 56 000 deaths, with economic losses estimated at 92.4 billion USD and insured losses amounting to 6.2 billion USD.
