Michael Flor, a 70-year-old American citizen, who was hospitalized in a Seattle facility for 62 days because of Covid-19, was charged 1 122 501 04 USD.
This amount included the following expenditures:
- 9 736 USD per day for an intensive care room.
- 409 000 USD for 42 days occupation of a sterilized room.
- 82 000 USD for the use of an artificial respirator for 29 days.
- 100 000 USD for "last-chance" care.
When the invoice was received, the patient almost died of a heart attack. In fact, the treatment's cost will not be paid for by Mr. Flor but by Medicare, a health coverage for seniors.
To support health care institutions and insurance companies, the US government has allocated 100 million USD to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
