On 27 September 2024, torrential rains hit eastern and central Nepal, causing severe flooding. The Nepalese capital Kathmandu was the worst-hit city.
As at 30 September, the death toll stood at 200, with 127 injured and 26 missing. More than 4 000 people were evacuated by helicopter, motorboat and lifeboat.
Kathmandu recorded 240 mm of rain in 24 hours, the highest level since 2002.
