Deadly Floods in Nepal and Tibet

On 26 August 2026, flash floods and mudslides caused by a glacier collapse claimed several lives in Nepal and in the Himalayan region of Tibet, in southwestern China.

The preliminary death toll stands at 273 with more than 1 300 people missing.

According to local media, nine hydroelectric facilities, 19 bridges, and 40 kilometers of road were destroyed. In addition, numerous vehicles were buried.

The disaster is one of the deadliest to hit Nepal in recent years.
