The Italian police has recently dismantled two gangs involved in motor insurance frauds whereby forty people have been inquired.
Hormis les risques techniques, toutes les autres branches sont en progression.
Gangs simulated car accidents to collect motor TPL indemnifications. The fictitious victims agreed to break their own bones to simulate a traffic accident in order to receive compensation. This is why they were known as the “bone breakers”.
The modus operandi of gangs was well established as the accidents took place in free areas with no surveillance cameras. False witnesses were recruited, doctors provided false certificates and lawyers brought the cases before the courts. In general, the accomplices in the scams are extremely frail individuals such as: drug addicts, alcoholics, the mentally ill, etc.
The first “bone breakers” case was revealed to the public in 2017. Back then, one person had succumbed to his injuries. The investigation carried out at that time had resulted in the arrest of eleven people. Starting from that event, the police had been able to put the pieces together and expose the insurance fraud network.
