Dust storm hits Al-Qassim province in Saudi ArabiaA dust storm hit the province of Al-Qassim in central Saudi Arabia on Sunday 4 May 2025. The extremely low visibility and high concentration of dust particles in the air forced residents to limit their movements.

Footage shared by media outlets and across social networks shows a thick wall of dust stretching hundreds of meters into the air, closing in on the city.

This phenomenon, known as “haboob”, is driven by winds reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h, lifting dust clouds that can rise to over 2 000 meters in altitude. These suspended particles represent a risk for both air and land transport, as well as for public health, particularly for people suffering from respiratory problems.
