Floods sweep through New York and New Jersey

Exceptionally heavy rainfall during the night between 14 and 15 July 2025 triggered major flooding in the US States of New York and New Jersey.

In New York, between 38 and 45 millimeters of rain fell in under two hours, prompting the temporary suspension of operations at all three major airports. Ground transportation was also disrupted, with several subway lines halted and stations inundated.

In New Jersey, rainfall totals reached as high as 150 millimeters. Authorities advised residents to remain indoors for their safety.

Flash flooding was also reported in parts of Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

No casualties have been reported so far.
