On 11 June 2025, the London High Court ruled in favor of six aircraft leasing companies in a legal dispute with their insurers over aircraft stranded in Russia since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.
Seeking compensation for 147 aircraft and 16 spare engines valued at 4.7 billion USD, the leasing firms had brought the case against insurers including AIG, Lloyd's, Chubb, and Swiss Re.
As part of the ruling, Irish lessor Aercap is entitled to recover 1.035 billion USD under its "war and allied risks" coverage.
This latest payout brings Aercap’s total insurance recoveries to nearly 2.5 billion USD, following the 1.3 billion USD and 195 million USD in indemnities received between 2023 and 2024.
