Mandatory vehicle inspection for motor insurance policies in Côte d'Ivoire

According to a Ministerial Order dated 6 January 2025, motorists driving in Côte d'Ivoire must present a new document when underwriting a motor insurance policy.

Drivers must now hold a valid vehicle inspection certificate to be able to insure their vehicles.

The decree also provides that the period of validity of the insurance policy must not exceed that of the vehicle inspection certificate.

Failure to comply with this new requirement will lead to penalties ranging from 25% to 30% of the insurance premium.

This initiative is part of the national road safety strategy 2021-2025 aimed at bringing down the number of traffic fatalities by 50% to 2030.
