July 13, 2015
The National Basketball Association (NBA) players union is considering the establishment of a pension fund to pay health insurance of some former players experiencing financial difficulty.
The project, which covers nearly 1 500 former players would cost between 10 and 15 million USD. Its funding should be through some USD 2.7 billion USD earned by the league following the negotiation of new TV rights.
The decision will be ratified during the 20 July meeting in Las Vegas, between the NBA and the players' union.
The stakes are crucial for 60% of retired players who have failed to manage their finances and are no longer able to get proper treatment.
