Road accidents increase in Turkey

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), car accidents increased by 20.6% in 2021 to reach 1.186 million.

The number of fatalities increased by 10.2% to 5.362. The number of injuries went from 226.266 in 2020 to 274.615 one year later.

The majority of traffic accidents (78.6%) took place in residential areas.

According to TurkStat, 87.1% of all traffic accidents are caused by the driver's fault.
