Storm “Boris” sweeps through Central Europe

Since the weekend of 14 and 15 September 2024, a number of Central European countries have been hit by storm “Boris”. The storm triggered torrential rain and flooding in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

As at 18 September 2024, the death toll had risen to 22 - a figure that could climb even higher. These are the worst floods recorded in the Czech Republic since 2002.

Italy is also bracing itself for heavy flooding as Boris heads for the south of the continent.
