A robot CEO

robotWho would have thought that one day artificial intelligence would eventually replace the highest ranking executive in a company? Today, this once far-fetched assumption has become reality. The CEO position at NetDragon Websoft, a Chinese metaverse company, has been entrusted to Ms. Tang Yu, an AI-powered virtual robot.

Tang Yu, who will be leading the "organization and efficiency department", will be tasked with managing the company's operations, which are valued at 10 billion USD. This is intended to reduce task execution time, improve product quality, support decision making and ensure better risk management.

As strange as it may seem, the decision to replace the CEO with AI is in line with the normal course of corporate evolution. With the industrial revolution, we saw peasants become workers to make way for mechanical machines that replaced them in the fields. Later on, we saw workers being substituted by machines in factories.

It is now the turn of CEOs to be dethroned by AI in a world that is rapidly shifting towards the digital and the virtual. And who knows? In time, insurers and reinsurers may well take the plunge and appoint CEOs 2.0.
