Earthquake in Mexico: The cursed 19 September anniversary

Mexico earthquakeOn 19 September 2022, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico City and western Mexico. While no major damage was reported, the tremor managed to trigger the painful memory of the 1985 and 2017 earthquakes.

37 years ago to the day, the country was shaken by an 8.1 magnitude earthquake. The center of the capital (Mexico City) had experienced an apocalyptic episode that left 10 000 dead and 50 000 injured. The earthquake had also destroyed several public buildings. Consequently, 500 000 students were left without a place to study.

On 19 September 2017, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Puebla, killing 369 people and injuring 5 404 others.
