EarthquakesA study conducted by climate experts estimated that the earth experiences one million earthquakes each year, 100 000 of which are felt by humans, 1 000 are likely to cause significant damage and 15 are considered major earthquakes.

The economic losses caused by the largest earthquakes since 1988 were estimated at 700 billion USD.

The 1960 earthquake in Chile was the strongest in history, measuring 9.5 on the Ritcher scale.

Also according to the study, more than one billion people live in seismically active areas.

The 6 February 2023 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have renewed the fear of the Big One in several countries and regions, including California, which is threatened by the San Andreas Fault. Seismologists believe that there is a 62% probability that this mega-earthquake will occur around 2032.
