General Motors' self-driving cars involved in traffic accidents
Autonomous cars are still encountering major obstacles on American roads. Such is the case with Cruise, a General Motors subsidiary that uses these vehicles as robot cabs in San Francisco, California.
In December 2022, the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a preliminary investigation into these means of transport. These vehicles are allegedly involved in multiple accidents caused by abrupt braking leading to pile-ups.
Cruise is cooperating with the NHTSA and insists that its models have already been driven more than one million miles in urban and complex environments without causing any bodily injury.
