Natural disasters in 2022: insured losses could reach 100 billion USD

tornadeAccording to a recent report by Keefe, Bruyette & Woods (KBW), natural disaster insured losses have already reached 90 billion USD and could exceed 100 billion USD by the end of 2022.

Hurricane Ian alone could cost the insurance industry 50 billion USD. Other financial firms have also released their forecasts namely:

  • Verisk, which forecasts insured losses between 42 and 57 billion USD.
  • Risk Management Solutions (RMS) which estimates insured losses to range between 53 billion USD and 74 billion USD.
  • Karen Clark & Company (KCC) expects the bill to reach 60 billion USD.
  • Californian company CoreLogic and Fitch whose estimates were the lowest: 47 billion USD and 40 billion USD respectively.
