Road accidents: over 200 bicycle and scooter drivers lost their lives in 2022
According to the report published by the The French Road Safety Observatory (ONISR), the year 2022 was marked by a significant rise in the number of road deaths among cyclists and scooter riders.
In 2022, the number of cyclists who died due to traffic accidents in metropolitan France reached 244 deaths compared to 187 in 2019.
Road accidents also claimed the lives of 34 users of personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as electric scooters against 10 in 2019.
Overall, metropolitan France recorded as many as 3 260 road fatalities. In the overseas territories, 281 people lost their lives bringing the total death toll to 3 541.
It is worth noting that the ONISR used 2019 as a reference year, as the years 2020 and 2021 were marked by the Covid-19 pandemic.
