Natural catastrophes in Germany: cost of insured losses in H1 2022

Natural catastrophes in GermanyAccording to the German Insurance Association (GDV), the cost of insured losses caused by natural catastrophes amounted to 3 billion EUR (3.15 billion USD) in the first half of 2022.

The storms Ylenia, Zeynep and Antonia alone, which hit several European countries in February 2022, accounted for almost 50% of the damages, meaning an amount of 1.4 billion EUR (1.47 billion USD). This is the third most violent series of storms since 2002.

The "Emmelinde" tornado that hit the German cities of Paderborn, Höxter and Lippstadt in May 2022 also resulted in significant damage.
