Winter Storm Elliott upsets Americans' Christmas party

Winter Storm ElliottSince the evening of Wednesday 21 December 2022, Central and Eastern United States have been facing one of the strongest winter storms in decades.

Storm Elliott brought significant snowfall, icy gusts and temperatures as low as -48°C in some places.

The provisional death toll is of 32 in nine states. On Christmas Day, many homes were without electricity while thousands of flights were cancelled. Some people were trapped in their vehicles for two days and others in homes with freezing temperatures.

According to the U.S. Weather Service (NWS), temperatures are expected to return to seasonal normals by the middle of next week.

On December 25, cold waves of rare intensity also hit Canada causing power outages, flight cancellations and train suspensions.
