Four Jordanian insurance companies liquidated
According to the Jordan Insurance Federation (JIF), four local insurance companies have recently been liquidated due to losses incurred in the compulsory motor insurance class of business. These insurers have been facing cumulative losses of more than 370 million JOD (521.863 million USD) since 2001.
All the companies that are currently bankrupt or in financial distress are operating in the motor insurance sector which represents at least 97% of their portfolio. Furthermore, between 100 000 and 200 000 people are directly or indirectly concerned by the insurers' solvency problems.
