Cyclone Freddy: loss estimate
The initial estimates provided by the broker AON indicate that the cost of damage caused by tropical storm Freddy could reach tens of millions of dollars in Madagascar. Other losses have also been reported in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Formed on 5 February 2023 in the southern Indian Ocean, the cyclone reached Madagascar 17 days later where it destroyed several buildings and affected thousands of people.
On 28 February 2023, the storm, accompanied by heavy rainfall, moved towards Mozambique and Zimbabwe resulting in severe flooding. The provisional death toll stands at 16.
