Tunisian insurance market in 2021

Comité Général des Assurances (CGA)According to the General Insurance Committee (CGA), Tunisian insurers have closed the year 2021 with a turnover of 2.833 billion TND (983.14 million USD), showing a 10.2% increase compared to 2020.

Non-life premiums have progressed by 8.4% to reach 2.111 billion TND (732.58 million USD), or 74.5% of the overall turnover. The non-life activity is dominated by the motor class of business with 42.4% of the market share, followed by health insurance (14.8%) and fire & miscellaneous risks (12.6%).

The life and capitalization class of business totaled 722 million TND (250.556 million USD) of written premiums, representing a 15.7% growth over a year. This activity accounts for 25.5% of the total premiums written in Tunisia as at 31 December 2021.

As at 31 December 2021, claims settled by local insurance companies amounted to 1.636 billion TND (567.74 million USD), up by 21.3% compared to 2020.
