Devastating floods in South Africa, Mozambique and Eswatini

Inondations Mozambique, Afrique du Sud et EswatiniDuring the week of 6 February 2023, heavy rains fell on three African countries causing severe flooding.

In South Africa, twelve people lost their lives while several others were reported missing. There was also material damage, including the collapse of infrastructure and the destruction of agricultural land.

In Mozambique, the death toll reached eight, while the number of people affected by the rains totaled 40 000. Thousands of homes and hundreds of schools were destroyed.

Both countries' governments have declared a state of disaster.

In Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), many citizens were affected by the floods, while extensive property damage was reported, including six damaged bridges.
