Until 2011, the year 2005, affected by hurricane Katrina, was the year that was most costly to insurers. In 2011, Japan’s events have affected insurers with up to 35 billion USD. The Christchurch earthquake and the Thailand floods have been estimated respectively at 12 and to about 10 billion USD.
