Despite an encouraging savings rate, Kenyan life insurance managed to reap only a turnover of 21.3 billion KES (294 million USD) for the year 2009, that is, just 3 billion KES (41 million USD) more than the previous year. Three Kenyans out of a thousand are holders of a life insurance policy. The year 2009 witnessed the launch of a wide range of micro insurance items, including life products. One study emphasized the reduction of classical policies prices in order to target low-income people.
