May 2011 The South African bank Absa, controlled at 54% by the Barclays group is selling insurance policies in Botswana. This new service is offered by all of its agencies. Absa has confirmed its willingness to extend this principle to other African countries. Mozambique and Zambia are next on its list. The bank is also represented in Nigeria, Namibia and Tanzania. It is the largest retail bank in South Africa.
