Apr 2011 The report, published on the site Asahi.com, has revealed that since 2010 Japanese women have underwritten more life insurance than men. The percentage of women having a life policy is 81.4% compared to 79.9% for men. This is the first time in 24 years (since the inception of this study) that this percentage swings in favor of women.
In 1987, 84.9% of men had such coverage against 71.2% of women. One explanation lies in the increasing number of women at work. The other refers to late marriages which account for the decline of demand for insurance by men wishing to protect their families in case of death.
