Accidents have reported an abrupt rise of 30%, and it is believed that 20% of the claims reported are ripped-off or simulated accidents. Losses at the insurers' charge and pertaining to false statements are estimated between 30 and 50 million MUR (977 000 and 1 628 000 USD). The companies are planning to create a data base for the insured in a move to contain fraud.
