Apr 2006 The World Food Program and the Ethiopian authorities have held a two-day workshop dedicated to the drought insurance pilot project. Ethiopia is the first developing country to adopt a genuine insurance system for the benefit of small farmers. The scheme has been set up to come to the rescue of a maximum 17 million farmers in case of crop loss due to a severe drought.
