Upon the announcement of its decision to acquire the British portfolio of the General Electric, the value of Sanlam Company shares sustained a 2.7% fall. According to some analysts, this reaction explains some of the market's mistrust as to the strategy adopted by Sanlam and by the poor profit perspectives that the GE's takeover move would generate. The takeover bid made by Sanlam for the acquisition of GE's life portfolio is valued at about 5.5 billion ZAR (823.7 million USD).
