Dec 2013 The Malaysian insurance market attracts foreign companies because of the significant potential it holds. The population growth in an enabling economic environment and the liberalization of the insurance sector since 2009 are the main factors of this craze for Malaysia.
Foreign investments in local insurance companies are henceforth capped to 70% compared to 49 % previously. This arrangement promotes a significant number of mergers and acquisitions including the purchase of Malaysian Insurance by AIA, MAA Assurance by the Zurich Group and Hong Leong Assurance by Mitsui Sumitomo.
