In 2011, a total of 237 piracy acts were listed along the Somali coasts, that is nearly 50% of the attacks posted worldwide. This figure dropped to 75 in 2012 before falling to 15 in 2013. Patrolling warships, security teams accompanying commercial vessels as well as actions of the Somali government have greatly annihilated this scourge. This decrease has, however, been offset by a sharp increase in attacks off Nigerian coasts.
